Everyone can take part
Accessibility at bumpmerch
The whole idea here is that a run opens at a dollar so anyone can join. That promise is hollow if the site itself keeps people out. Disability is part of every audience, visible or not, and this page says plainly what we do about that, what is still imperfect, and how to tell us when something is hard to use.
The standard we work to
We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA. That is the current version of the standard the US Department of Justice points to in its ADA web guidance and rules, and the one accessibility professionals test against. We treat it as a floor, not a finish line.
What that means in practice
- Color you can actually read
Every text and background pair on the site and in our emails is measured against the AA contrast thresholds, not eyeballed. Where the brand coral failed the math on buttons, we deepened it until it passed.
- Works without a mouse
Everything can be reached and operated by keyboard: menus, forms, tabs, dialogs. A two-tone focus ring stays visible on light and dark surfaces alike, and every page starts with a skip link.
- Works with a screen reader
Pages use real headings, landmarks, and labels. Images carry descriptions or are marked decorative. Errors and confirmations announce themselves instead of appearing silently.
- Motion is optional
If your device asks for reduced motion, we honor it: smooth scrolling stops and the celebration animation does not run at all.
- Plain words
Money and deadlines are stressful enough. We write what happens in short, direct sentences: what you pay, when it prints, what a refund looks like.
Known limits, stated honestly
Some parts of a purchase run on other companies' software. The buy button and checkout come from the Bumpsale engine, and card entry happens on Stripe's pages. Sellers' uploaded quote files are documents we did not author. We choose partners seriously and we will chase any problem you hit in those steps, but we cannot edit their code directly. Our own pages are reviewed with measured contrast checks and keyboard and code review passes; if a screen reader trips on something we missed, we want to know the same day.
Tell us what is hard
If any part of bumpmerch is difficult to see, hear, operate, or understand, that is a bug and we treat it like one. Write to us through the support form below or reply to any bumpmerch email. A real person reads it, and fixes ship in days, not quarters.
